Week 7: Frameworks for control
Planning Poker Estimation Game [Exercise]
The instructions of the game was as follows: (Taken from the slides)
• Team members think about the story and come up their own estimates. Nobody speaks the estimate just yet.
• Members place a card from their decks face down on the table, with a value equal or close to their estimate (hours, days or weeks).
• When everyone’s card is on the table they turn them over at the same time. • Everyone discusses what they thought the story required, maximum of 3 minutes discussion.
• Taking account of new information the cards are played again (and perhaps again) until rough convergence is achieved or one developer’s proposal and estimate is decided on.
Fig.1 Scenario Sheet Fig.2 Planning Cards
We were given a list of scenarios (fig.1) for which we had to play the game for. We has to give our estimates for the first scenario with the planning cards (fig.2) next to the sheets. Each player (4 players) and their own set of cards and showed their individual estimates.
Our priority was to give each scenario an ID. The team decided on simply sequencing the numbers (1, 2, 3, 4... so on) but I wanted to name the scenarios as 1S, 2S, 3S... where the 'S' stood for 'Student' and the others was 1T, 2T, 3T... where the 'T' stood for 'Teacher'. There are scenarios which are from the student as well as the teachers perspective so I wanted a visually distingusing ID.
